Sparky’s Puppets Return to Library!

On Monday, July 26, at 6:30 pm we welcome back Sparky’s Puppets who will perform “Stories in Trees” as part of our series of summer Family Nights. What’s greener than a tree, you ask? Sparky Davis says oak, apple, and pine! There’s a tree in every tale with a lively medley of stories celebrating the world of forest and field.

With thanks to The Friends of Seekonk Public Library for their generous funding of this program, we are proud to present Sparky’s Puppets in our Meeting Room this coming Monday. You’ll laugh out loud at the antics of the puppets and at the funny comments they utter!

This program is free, thanks to the Friends, and it’s open to the public! Come to the show and have some fun!

Mobile site expanded - Find even more info while you’re on the go with Seekonk Public Library Mobile site. Now there are links to the apps and catalog to download audiobooks straight to your device, links to mobile friendly databases, and times included in the events calendar. Let us know what you think-

New Language Learning tool - The popular Transparent Language series for learning a new language is available online with your Seekonk Library card. Now dozens of languages are available with no software to download and no holds to wait for! Create an account while in the library or give us a call to start. Then look on our homepage for links to Byki Online Languages.

Bye, bye AutoRepair Reference Center and PriceIt! - You may have noticed that links to these databases are no longer active or have been removed. For help finding similar resources in the library please just ask!

And today, introducnig Self-Checkout - we have company at the Information Desk - the EZ Self checkout station! Our current setup is temporary, but give it a try and let us know wat you think! We’re inches away if you have any questions, literally!

Family Night on Monday!

We’re delighted to welcome Robert Rivest to our stage on Monday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. as our Family Night guest this month with “Go Green and Make a Scene!” funded by The Friends of Seekonk Public Library.

Through mime and comic stories Robert Rivest explores how awesome it is to live on planet Earth! Included in his presentation is fun audience participation pieces that celebrate nature and the environment, plus easy ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Everyone gets to laugh, make a scene and learn ways to live GREEN!

Robert Rivest is one of the most prolific mime artists in the world. He has created over 120 original works for television, symphonies, dance and theatre companies, hospitals, science and art museums, as well as schools, libraries, churches and nature centers. In 2001 he founded The Rivest School of Mime Theatre, where he teaches and directs beginners through professionals.

So come to the Library next Monday night and GO GREEN!

SUMMER READING BEGINS!

The summer reading program has begun for children, teens and adults at Seekonk Library. Registration is online — just logon to our website, www.seekonkpl.org, and click “register” where it says “Go Green at your library!”

Children and teens will be eligible for a FREE book each week as long as they log their reading time (in minutes) on their summer reading home page. You can count any books that are read by parents, relatives, older siblings or any books-on-tape you listen to on a plane, train, or automobile!

Adults will be entered into a drawing for prizes after they submit reviews for the books they’ve read. Read as many books as you like, submit the reviews and you’ll have that many chances to win!

For further details, please visit the Library and we’ll be happy to explain how the summer reading program works. We’ve got plenty of reading material for you to embark on your Summer Reading Library Adventure!

Memorial Day Parade!

What better place to watch a parade than on the lawn in front of your Town’s Library! This coming Saturday, May 29, the Town of Seekonk celebrates Memorial Day with the Annual Memorial Day Parade stepping off from Aitken School at 10 am. The Library’s rest rooms will be open early, and we’ll have snacks for sale in the Children’s Room. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and come early for the most perfect viewing spot on Newman Avenue!

Puppet Pals Show on Monday!

We’re so happy to have the Puppet Pals Show come to our Library this coming Monday, May 24th, at 6:30 p.m. Roy Drew, from Warwick, will be presenting a fun 45 minutes filled with stories, skits, silly songs, audience participation and, of course, puppets! This event is sponsored by The Friends of Seekonk Public Library and they invite everyone to come help make the show a great time! Children will enjoy meeting the puppets, too!

We realize that Town Meeting is this same night, but we’re sure you can catch the Puppet Pals Show, bring the kids home, and then scoot over to Seekonk High School for Town Meeting.

Animal World Experience at Library!

Come to the Library this coming Monday night, April 26, at 6:30 to witness Animal World Experience! This educational and extremely interactive 45-60 minute program is every kid’s dream! Almost all of the animals can be petted and some can even be held. What’s better than that? You can pet the animals and then leave them at the Library! Meet a variety of exotic animals from around the world and truly “experience” mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates like never before. This program is free and open to the public and, most importantly, funded by The Friends of Seekonk Public Library!

Observe Earth Hour Today!

You may have seen newspaper articles or segments on television regarding Earth Hour being observed tonight. This event attempts to involve more than one billion people in 4,000 cities around the world, inviting communities, business and governments to switch off lights for one hour at 8:30 pm local time–sending a powerful global message that Earth’s citizens care enough about climate change to take action. We have many books and videos in our collection that address our environment and the impact of global warming. We applaud this effort tonight to show our concern and hope that you’ll put out your lights for an hour to show YOUR support!
